State Seal of STEM and STEAM Programs
SB 241 enacted in 2017, established the State Seal of STEM and STEAM Programs to recognize pupils who attain a high level of proficiency in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.
The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall establish a State Seal of STEM and STEAM Programs to recognize pupils who graduate from a public high school, including, without limitation, a charter school and a university school for profoundly gifted pupils, who have attained a high level of proficiency in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics for a STEM seal; and students who have attained a high level of proficiency in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics, for a STEAM seal, and shall:
- Create a State Seal of STEM and/or STEAM that may be affixed to the diploma and noted on the transcript of a pupil to recognize that the pupil has met the requirements of SB 241; and
- Deliver the State Seal of STEM and/or STEAM to each school district, charter school and university school for profoundly gifted pupils that participates in the State Seal of STEM and STEAM Programs.
Requirements for STEM Seal
Earns at least a 3.25 grade point average, on a 4.0 grading scale, or a 3.85 weighted grade point average, on a grading scale approved by the Superintendent of Public Instruction if a different grading scale is used.
Demonstrates proficiency in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by earning:
- At least 4 credits in science;
- At least 4 credits in mathematics;
- At least 1 credit in computer science, engineering, manufacturing, electronics or a career and technical education program of study in information and media technologies or skilled and technical sciences;
any one of the following:
- A score of 3 or higher on an advanced placement examination in science;
- A score of 4 or higher on an international baccalaureate examination in science;
- A score of 650 or higher on a SAT Subject Test in science;
- A score of 23 or higher on the ACT in science;
- A grade of B or higher in a college-level science course completed through dual enrollment; or
- A score of gold or higher on the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate; and
any one of the following:
- A score of 3 or higher on an advanced placement examination in mathematics;
- A score of 4 or higher on an international baccalaureate examination in mathematics;
- A score of 530 or higher on the SAT in mathematics;
- A score of 22 or higher on the ACT in mathematics;
- A grade of B or higher in a college-level mathematics course completed through dual enrollment; or
- A score of gold or higher on the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate.
Requirements for STEAM Seal
Earns

Demonstrates proficiency in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics by earning:
- At least 3 credits in science;
- At least 4 credits in mathematics;
- At least 1 credit in computer science, engineering, manufacturing, electronics or a career and technical education program of study in information and media technologies or skilled and technical sciences;
- At least 1 credit in fine arts;
any one of the following:
- A score of 3 or higher on an advanced placement examination in science;
- A score of 4 or higher on an international baccalaureate examination in science;
- A score of 650 or higher on a SAT Subject Test in science;
- A score of 23 or higher on the ACT in science;
- A grade of B or higher in a college-level science course completed through dual enrollment; or
- A score of gold or higher on the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate; and

- A score of 4 or higher on an international
baccalaureate examination in mathematics;
- A score of 530 or higher on the SAT in

- A grade of B or higher in a college-level
mathematics course completed through dual enrollment; or
- A score of gold or higher on the ACT National
Career Readiness Certificate.
Recommendations to Schools
School college and career counselors can support students in identifying pathways and building schedules that result in students earning these seals. School guidance counselors will report annually the number of graduates earning the STEM and STEAM seals to the Nevada Department of Education.
